Inspiron 1420 AC adapter?

My adapter just croaked. I've been told that I need a 310-3399 AC adapter to replace my current one (from dell) does anyone know of any universal adapters that will work with my laptop that aren't "made" by dell. I'd prefer if none of my money entered their pockets from now onwards.
Thanks to everyone whose given answers so far. One thing you probably should know if you give me an website to check out is that I'm Canadian, so if its an American site chances are i won't be buying from there, simple because of the cost of shipping, customs, the exchange rate etc.

Again thanks for the answers so far.

Dell is extremely smart in that they make their ac adapters proprietary, meaning that most of the universal ac adapters will not work well with Dell's laptop. I have heard of many problems like in on yahoo answers.

What I would suggest you to do is to buy ac adapter from online stores that sells Dell ac adapter. I would recommend that you buy it from Topmic because they offer life time warranty and free shipping to all laptop ac adapters for only half the price Dell sells (only $58). This way, you don't have to worry about your ac adapter not working anymore.

Best of luck.

Does Dell Inspiron 1420 come with AC adapter if I do not order a 90W AC at dell.com?

Thank you!
Appreciated all your helps!

I think their offering a spare adapter (for travel). It should come with one included in the base price.

How can you tell if your laptop is a PA-12 power adapter? I'm looking to buy a new ac adapter?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 but I'm not sure if this is the right one to buy?

Looking at Dell Support's compatibility chart, Dell Inspiron 1420 is compatible with PA-12 (65W), PA-10 (90W), PA-13 (130W), PA-15 (150W). So both of them should work just fine with your laptop.

If you are looking to buy a new ac adapter, I would also recommend buying from Topmic.com because they offer lifetime warranty and free shipping to all ac adapters at a good price. Although it is a bit more expensive than some stores, you can be sure they have good quality ac adapter because they have lifetime warranty. I think it is definitely worth it to buy from them.

Will this processor be strong enough for basic multitasking (email, media player, internet, photos)?
Thanks!

For a refurbished laptop this is kind of good, and it should be able to handle the tasks you throw at it. The Dell Insprion 1420 is a 14 inch laptop, so it is quite small. Comparing it to other notebooks you'll find that it is really a compromise between a desktop replacement notebook and a netbook. You are getting a dual core processor so this laptop is going to be good at multitasking, however 1.86GHz is a bit low. Pentium dual cores usually go up to 2.5-2.7GHz today. But if you are just going to do some web browsing or email checking a 1.86GHz processor will do. You have a nice amount of memory, so nothing to worry about there. The video card is weak but enough to run Windows Aero, but if you want great performance I suggest you to make it at least 256MB. With your video card if you are watching some videos in HD then there might be some problems, 128MB will get a hard time handling HD. Your hard drive is big enough to hold enough media, photos, and music.

Overall it is a decent laptop for basic multitasking.
